About

My audio, "Memoir and Social Change," was aired on many public radio stations, posted on insidehighered.com (on 4/30/12) and archived here: http://wamc.org/programs/academic-minute.

My post, "Why Memoir Matters," appears on the OUPblog: http://blog.oup.com/2012/02/why-memoir-matters/

At the invitation of a Hofstra colleague, I recently skyped a discussion of Patricia Hampl's "Memory and Imagination" for his writing course. I am open to other such invitations.

A review essay on three of my books (Recovering Bodies, Vulnerable Subjects, and Signifying Bodies) appears in Philosophy and Literature: Richard Freadman, "Cure and Care: G. Thomas Couser and the Ethics of `Pathography'." Volume 35: 388-398.

I was part of a panel discussion of memoir on the Colin McEnroe show on WNPR radio (Connecticut Public Radio--90.5 FM) on Wednesday, January 25. It is available as a podcast: http://www.yourpublicmedia.org/content/wnpr/colin-mcenroe-show-art-and-glut-memoir

I gave a book talk, "Why Memoir Matters," at the Stonington Public Library in Stonington, CT, at 5 p.m. on January 29.

My essay, "In My Father's Closet: Reflections of a Critic Turned Life Writer," is available online in the December issue of Literature Compass. In it, I discuss how writing a biographical memoir of my father has broadened my understanding of life writing, especially correspondence.

My most recent book is Memoir: An Introduction, published by Oxford University Press.

The special issue of the Journal of Literary and Cultural Disability Studies (JLCDS) on disability and life writing that I guest-edited has been published. It is available on Project Muse. It is Volume 5, Number 3, 2011.

My op-ed essay, "The Case History and Deferred Pain," was published in the AMA's on-line ethics journal, Virtual Mentor. It can be read here: http://virtualmentor.ama-assn.org/site/current.html.

In May 2011, I retired from my position as Professor of English and Director of Disability Studies at Hofstra.

My article, "What Disability Studies Has to Offer Medical Education," was published in the Journal of Medical Humanities,Volume 32, Issue 1 (2011), Page 21-30.  http://www.springerlink.com/openurl.asp?genre=article&id=doi:10.1007/s10912-010-9125-1.

My last name rhymes with "browser."
